Add Los Angeles Angels veteran Maicer Izturis to the list of infielders the Tigers have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring this offseason. FOXSports.com reported late Tuesday that the Tigers have inquired about trading for the switch-hitting super utility infielder. Izturis is set to make $3.8 million next season and can file for free agency after the season. Detroit has already reportedly inquired about free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, free-agent second baseman Kelly Johnson, and Atlanta Braves utility infielder Martin Prado this offseason. According to FOXSports.com, Prado remains the club’s No. 1 target on its trade wish list. Izturis, 31, has split the majority his time at second and third base in his eight-year career. He hit .276 with 38 RBIs, 51 runs and nine stolen bases as the Angels’ primary leadoff hitter last year. If the Venezuelan-born Izturis is acquired, the Tigers are likely to platoon him with Ryan Raburn at second and have him split time at third with Brandon Inge and Don Kelly. Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said the day after the season ended that the Angels would explore shifting rookie first baseman Mark Trumbo to third this offseason, which would seemingly make Izturis expendable. It is assumed that Izturis would not be an everyday player for the Angels next season, instead relieving Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar at second and short, respectively. | Mike Trout, Bryce Harper Highlight 2011 Arizona…
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, the top two prospects in Major League Baseball, will headline Arizona Fall League Rising Stars game Saturday night. The 5 p.m. PDT game from Surprise Stadium will be televised by MLB Network, and is the largest concentration of baseball prospects outside of the Futures Game, which is played during All-Star weekend. Trout is one of three Angels on the East roster, along with infielder Jean Segura and pitcher David Carpenter. “It’s like a smaller version of the Futures Game,” Trout told Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com. “It’s a great honor to be a part of it. We’re going to go out there and do our thing. We’ll be out there competing. You want to go out there and showcase yourself, but you want to win for your team, too.” In two stints with the Angels this season Trout, who turned 20 years old on August 7, hit .220/.281/.390 with five home runs in 40 games. He showed improvement in his second call up to the Halos, hitting .250/.318/.450 with four home runs and three stolen bases over his final 26 games of the season. Pitcher Steven Ames is the only member of the Los Angeles Dodgers on the East roster. For more Angels news and information, be sure to read Halos Heaven. Thanks for visiting our blog =). | 2 Yankees Execs Candidates For Angels GM Job
By SportsDirect New York Yankees amateur scouting director Damon Oppenheimer and head of professional scouting Billy Eppler are candidates for the Los Angeles Angels general manager vacancy, the New York Post reported Friday. The Angels have been without a GM since Tony Reagins resigned at the end of the season. According to the report, the 49-year-old Oppenheimer is considered a stronger candidate than the 35-year-old Eppler due to his edge in experience. Oppenheimer doesn’t mind vying with a co-worker for the same position. “That’s part of growing up in a team atmosphere,” Oppenheimer told the newspaper. “I am happy for a teammate, happy he is getting the opportunity to interview also.”

| Angels cut ties with former GM’s top 2 assistants | |
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have cut ties with two top aides to former general manager Tony Reagins in the continuing shake-up of their front office. The Angels say they won’t renew the contracts of assistant general manager Ken Forsch and special assistant Gary Sutherland. Reagins left the Angels last Friday after a meeting with owner Arte Moreno. Los Angeles went 86-76 and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year after starting the season with baseball’s fourth-highest payroll. Forsch had been in the Angels’ front office for 14 years after spending five seasons of his 16-year pitching career with the club. Sutherland, a former outfielder, joined the Angels in 1999, coordinating the club’s scouting. Copyright 2011 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
