Right behind Prado, though, is Los Angeles Angels infielder Maicer Izturis(notes), sources tell FOX, to help fill the crucial holes for Detroit: second base, third base, and the leadoff spot. The 31-year-old, switch-hitting Izturis “has filled all of those roles over an eight-year career,” FOX notes, but this season marked the first time in his career he played more than 120 games in a major-league season. FOX notes, though, that the Tigers have Ryan Raburn(notes), Brandon Inge(notes), and Don Kelly(notes) to share time with Izturis if he can’t play every game. Next year is the final year of Izturis’ deal and he’s scheduled to make $3.8 million, the site notes. Last year, he hit .276 with 35 doubles and five homers in 122 games. Let the rumors come to you. | 2011 MLB Trade Rumors: Colorado Rockies Inquire On…
Read More: Chris Iannetta (C – COL), Tyler Chatwood (P – ANA), Los Angeles Angels, Colorado Rockies We had already received word that the Los Angeles Angels might be interested in Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta, and now Troy Renck of the Denver Post is reporting that the Rockies and Angels have spoken regarding the catcher. Renck also adds that the Rockies asked the Angels about starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood, indicating that they may be seeking young, MLB-ready pitching in exchange for Iannetta. Chatwood, 22 in December, was considered one of the Angels’ top prospects before the 2011 season, and he ended up making 25 starts for LA. His performance wasn’t great, though, as he posted a 4.75 ERA over 142 innings with defense-independent statistics like FIP and SIERA closer to 5. His fastball averaged 93 MPH, but he really struggled with missing bats and ended up striking out only 74 guys compared to doling out 71 walks. That strikeout-to-walk ratio was actually the worst among all MLB pitchers with over 140 innings thrown in 2011. But even with those struggles, Chatwood is an intriguing young pitcher. He’s avoided injuries, pitching 160 innings in 2011 on the heels of pitching 155 innings in 2010. He still throws quite hard, as only 17 starters threw harder on average than him last season. And he’s still going to pitch the entire 2012 season at the tender age of 22, meaning that he could still show some serious improvement over the next couple years. | Report: Detroit Tigers target Los Angeles Angels…
Add Los Angeles Angels veteran Maicer Izturis to the list of infielders the Tigers have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring this offseason. FOXSports.com reported late Tuesday that the Tigers have inquired about trading for the switch-hitting super utility infielder. Izturis is set to make $3.8 million next season and can file for free agency after the season. Detroit has already reportedly inquired about free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez, free-agent second baseman Kelly Johnson, and Atlanta Braves utility infielder Martin Prado this offseason. According to FOXSports.com, Prado remains the club’s No. 1 target on its trade wish list. Izturis, 31, has split the majority his time at second and third base in his eight-year career. He hit .276 with 38 RBIs, 51 runs and nine stolen bases as the Angels’ primary leadoff hitter last year. If the Venezuelan-born Izturis is acquired, the Tigers are likely to platoon him with Ryan Raburn at second and have him split time at third with Brandon Inge and Don Kelly. Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said the day after the season ended that the Angels would explore shifting rookie first baseman Mark Trumbo to third this offseason, which would seemingly make Izturis expendable. It is assumed that Izturis would not be an everyday player for the Angels next season, instead relieving Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar at second and short, respectively. Not much else going on in the MLB planet today. Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

| Orioles Insider: Klentak talks about leaving the… | |
Matt Klentak, who spent the last four years as the Orioles’ director of baseball operations, said today that leaving the club to become an assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Angels was just too good of a career move to ignore. “This is a great opportunity,” Klentak, 31, said. “It has nothing to do with the (Orioles) team and the change in regime. It’s an opportunity that (my wife) Lauren and I didn’t feel we could pass up.” Klentak, a Dartmouth College graduate and Massachusetts native, was in Major League Baseball’s Labor Relations Department for four years before being hand-picked by former Orioles’ president Andy MacPhail in 2008 to be one of his top lieutenants. That distinction at such a young age propelled Klentak into “future GM” discussions. “I’m thankful to the Angelos family and I am extremely appreciative of the opportunity that Andy MacPhail provided for me to start my (front office) career in Baltimore,” Klentak said. “Lauren and I really enjoyed our time living in Baltimore, I started a family here and there are a lot of people we will miss.” In Baltimore, Klentak was primarily responsible for arbitration, contractual negotiations and rules interpretations. He’ll likely do a lot of that in Anaheim, but now will have the “assistant general manager” title and likely will be more involved in to day-to-day decisions. “It’s just the opportunity to go to Anaheim and work with Jerry Dipoto and that entire organization,” Klentak said. “I am looking forward to building a winner out in Anaheim.” Dipoto was the first candidate the Orioles interviewed this offseason for their top executive spot which eventually went to Dan Duquette. Dipoto and Klentak did not have a previous working relationship, but apparently Dipoto had collected enough information on Klentak from others during routine research for the Orioles’ job that there was a potential match in LA once Dipoto was hired. Klentak said he was obviously interested in the Orioles’ search for his new boss and had checked with his own contacts about Dipoto. So when the Angels came calling, Klentak was intrigued. Still, he said, it was a tough decision personally to leave behind the friends he made with the Orioles “The hardest part about this is knowing I will not be able to come to work and work with the great people I have gotten to know in the last four years in Baltimore,” he said. “But I am confident the Angels have a lot of great people and I am looking forward to working with them.” Gotta run!. | MLB Free Agent Rumors: Is Philadelphia Phillies…
Read More: Ryan Madson (P – PHI), Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels The Philadelphia Phillies were once reportedly close to re-signing pitcher Ryan Madson to a $44-million deal. That deal still has not happened. Madson may have a new suitor in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (via L.A. Times). There is no indication in that Scott Boras, Madson’s agent, has been formally contacted by the Angels. Madson is a Type A free agent. The salary arbitration deadline for such free agents is midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Via Philly.com, if the Phillies offer Madson arbitration “the Phillies will still receive a first-round draft pick and a compensatory pick for Madson provided they offer him salary arbitration.” If Madson went to the Angels, the Phillies would pick right before the Angels, the 18th spot overall. Madson has pitched for the Phillies since his MLB career began in 2003. He was a crucial was part of the World Series winning Phillies team in 2008, appearing in 11 games. In 2011, Madson recorded 32 saves in 62 appearances. Madson’s ERA was 2.37. He threw 61 strikeouts in 60.2 innings. If you like reading our blog, remember to bookmark it.
